This girl is a smart thinker. She not only constructed an amazing sculpture out of clay that featured a tree complete with bird, bird nest, and eggs, but she's gone even further by creating this 2-d work of art showing some more to the story. I've been curious and I guess I'll have to be patient until I see her again to figure out what her vision is all about. Great job.

I am working on the preproduction of another video today and hope to get it out either by the end of the day or Monday. These videos take time to put together, and I encourage you to look at the previous episodes and build your own drawing in your sketchbook from some of the many points I have already spoken about. The weather is creating some lighting issues but I will see if I can film anyway!

Student Spotlight! (Episode 19) Mrs. Washington's 1st Grade Class!

Karah!

Man, she is a hard respectful little worker in my class, and she has some great drawing skills. Here she drew a toy still life of Teddy, my daughter's bear that has been hanging out in my art classroom for some time.

Hunter B!

In this project we looked at the difference between geometric and organic shapes and Humter traced some wooden blocks across the surface of his paper to create his composition. From there we focused on controlling our crayon. Some children attempted shading from dark to light while some concentrated on filling the spaces with a careful coloring approach.

Mariah!

Here Mariah drew a beautiful version of another toy still ife in my room of a pink elephant. The children were then encouraged to add a background from their imagination, yet keep the toy as the main focus. I really like her approach!

You go girl! I love the umbrella beach scene from your toy still life. I could use a visit to the beach. It's been about 5 years for me...Great job. You are amazing!

He is the student that reminds me of how I was when I was his age. He's always drawing and his drawings are super good. This was the one he wanted for his art show, but he had so many great pieces it was hard to choose.

Student Spotlight!!!!! (Episode 18) Mrs. Klein's Kindergarten class!

Aizley!

What a great job she did on her snowman. We carefully constructed this drawing from the 5 lines of art and put shapes together one piece at a time. We also built off of our understanding of foreground, middle ground, and background in a artwork that we learned from our earlier dinosaur drawing. Can you see our shadow? If you want to understand more it's all in my youtube lessons designed to remind the children about the things we have been trying to understand in drawing.

E.G.! 

This is a great example of our first drawing assignment in kindergarten with Mr. Hale. This is when we identify the 5 lines of art Horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zig zag, and curve lines. We then construct a drawing where we begin to become "the boss" of our crayon. I love her drawing here. Great work!

Sophia!

What a great little dinosaur! Here we used the 5 lines of art to construct the drawing. Zig Zag line is in the grass, curve line is in the body, etc. Look at that pterodactyl flying up there! So cool!

 

Pearson!

For this drawing I led the students through the sequence to combine our knowledge from previous lessons. IN second grade we take this 2-D knowledge and use it to build Snowmen out of clay as part of a larger global mindset of connecting our ongoing projects together not just on a yearly basis, but over the whole duration of being an elementary student. Great job Pearson! Here's a second grade picture below to show what I make reference towards our understanding.

She has done an amazing job I love her heart designs on the scarf and the pink stars give it a little extra lift to her composition. These pictures we composed in February. Wonderful job!

This pic was from our "Picasso Me" project where we looked in a mirror after understanding a bit more about Picasso and we tried our hand at drawing a self portrait in his style. I like Charlie's pic! So cool!

You know, I think Namasvi has one of the best smiles I have ever seen on a kid. It's like a sunrise! I think one can get a feel for that looking at her art work here. Makes me want to go scuba diving!

There is a young boy named Owen who is an incredible artist. He is a mighty Pelzel. I hope he continues to see that he is pretty amazing just the way he is.
