Curriculum Update

In Reading, we will be reviewing the comprehension strategies that we have covered so far this year.  There will be a Read 4 Today Assessment on Friday.

In Language Arts, we will continue to work on Dictionary Skills as well as Main Idea.  There will be an assessment over morning work sentences on Friday.

In Spelling, we will be reviewing suffixes and contractions.  There will be a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday.

In Math, we will be working on metric measurement.  We will also continue to do daily problem solving.

In Integrated Language Arts, we will continue to work on our Government unit.  Our poem this week will still be an excerpt from the Gettysberg Address.

Reminders

Tuesday, March 3 is an Early Release Day.  Dismissal is 2 hours early.

Please have your child complete their online practice CRCT tests each week.  This is an important part of your child's weekly homework assignment.  I have reviewed how to access the tests in class.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Curriculum Update

In Reading, we are continuing to work on nonfiction text.  We will be completing book reviews in class this week. There will be a Read 4 Today assessment on Friday.

In Language Arts, we will begin working on dictionary skills.  There will be a DOL assessment on Friday.

We will not have a Sitton Spelling unit this week.

In Math, we will begin working on number sense with larger numbers.  There will also be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday.

Reminders

Conferences are this week.  Please let me know if you are not sure of your conference time.  Dismissal is 2 hours early.

Book Fair will be in the Media Center all week.

In Math, we are beginning a new unit on fractions.  There will also be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday.

In Reading, we are continuing to work with nonfiction texts.  Our focus this week will be determining important ideas.  There will be a Read 4 Today assessment on Friday.

In Integrated Language Arts we are continuing our unit on space.  Our focus this week will be day and night, seasons, and shadows.  Our poem this week is Solar System in Motion.  There will be no vocabulary test this week.

In Writing, we will be working on persuasive writing.  There will be a DOL assessment over morning work sentences on Friday.

In Spelling we will be reviewing compound words.  There will be a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday.

Monday is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  There is no school.

In Reading, we will focus on the features of nonfiction text for this grading period.

In Language Arts, we will be working on fact and opinion.

In Spelling, we will review silent letters and homophones.

In Integrated Language Arts, we will begin an exciting unit on Space.  Our focus this week will be stars.

In Math, we will be completing our Geometry unit with a study of solid figures.

We will also be completing assessments for the end of this grading period.

There will be no assessments over morning work this week.

Our holiday party will be on Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30.  Please let me know if you are available to help out.  We will be making gingerbread houses.

Curriculum Update

In Reading, we are continuing to work on Inferring.  There will be a Read 4 Today assessment on Friday, November 21.

In Language Arts, we are working on verbs as well as capitalization and punctuation.  There will be a DOL test on Friday, November 21.

In Sitton Spelling, we are working on r-controlled vowels.  There will be a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday, November 21.

In Math, we are continuing to work on telling time.  There will be a Math 4 Today Assessment on Friday, November 21.

In Social Studies, we are continuing to work on Famous Georgians.  The students will be completing projects in class. There will be a vocabulary test on Friday, November 21.  We will also recite the poem on Friday.

Friday, November 21 is Spirit Day.

Monday, November 24 to Friday, November 28 is Thanksgiving Holidays.  There is no school.

In Reading, we are continuing to work on the strategy of Inferring.  There will be a Read 4 Today Assessment on Friday, November 14.

In Language Arts, we will continue to work on nouns and Informational Writing.  There will be a DOL Assessment on Friday, November 14.

In Math, we will finish our unit on Subtraction with Regrouping.  Our next unit will be on Telling Time.  There will be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday, November 14.

In Spelling, we will review long vowel sounds.  There will be a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday, November 14.

Our new Integrated Language Arts unit will be on Famous Georgians.  This will be a two week unit.  We will be studying Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and James Ogelthorpe.

Curriculum Update

In Reading, we will begin the strategy of inferring.  There will be a Read 4 Today test on Friday.

Due to the short week, we will not begin a new Sitton Spelling Unit until next week.

In Language Arts, we will continue to work on capitalization and punctuation.  We are also working on nouns.  Our writing focus will be informational writing.

We will complete our Integrated Language Arts unit on Nutrition.  The students will take the vocabulary test and recite the poem on Friday.

In Math, we are continuing to work on 2-Digit Subtraction with regrouping.  There will be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday.

In Reading, we are continuing to work on questioning, and reviewing other strategies.  There will be a Read 4 Today assessment on Friday, October 31.

In Spelling we will be reviewing contractions and homophones.  There will a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday.

In Language Arts, we are continuing to review Nouns.  There will be a DOL assessment over morning work sentences on Friday.

In Math, we are continuing to work on 2-digit subtraction with regrouping.  This is a very difficult concept.  Please practice at home.  There will be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday.

In Integrated Language Arts, our current unit is Nutrition.  This will be a 2 week unit.  Your child needs to choose one poem to recite.  There are five to choose from.

Our Fall Jamboree will be this Friday.  Please send in your donations by Thursday.  The students will be participating in fun fall themed centers.  Thanks for your help!

In Spelling, we are continuing to work on homophones and suffixes.  There will be a Sitton Spelling Assessment on Friday.

In math, we will begin our unit on subtraction with and without regrouping.  There will be a Math 4 Today assessment on Friday.

Our next science unit will be on Motion.  The poem will still be Energy Rap.  There will be a vocabulary test on Friday.
