CRCT Practice week

Hello,


The students participated in a practice CRCT assessment on Monday.  An overview of their score will be sent home Friday.  Please continue to practice online for the CRCT.  The extra reinforcement really helps as we approach the testing date.

Healthwise week

The students did a great job on the writing test.  The results will be sent home along with each student's fourth quarter report card.

This week on Thursday and Friday the students will participate in a healthwise activity.  This activity will take part during the school day.  The students will be separated and each group will learn about puberty and development.

Writing test week

3/3 Early Release

3/4 Thewriting test will be on March 4th.  The students will begin promptly at 8:15.  If any student is late they will be sent to the library.  They will be allowed to enter the classroom once the test is over.  Students who are late or absent will be allowed to take a retest the following day. 

The test will last for 2 hours; therefore, please make sure that your child gets enough rest and a nutritious breakfast.

3/5 The students will view a Holocaust play from 8:15-9:15; afterwards, representatives from Palmer will visit to discuss any questions surrounding middle school.

Math:

Chapter 17- Test on Friday

Social studies:

We will begin our study of World War 1. 

Reading:

We will begin our study of metaphors, similes, and alliteration.

Health:

The students have a health project that is due Tuesday, March 3rd.

Writing:

The final draft of the students' persuasive writing is due Tuesday, March 3rd.

Please remember to turn in all dues for the fifth grade activities (i.e. the end of year  picnic, field trip, and the year book.

The CRCT is approaching.  Please remember to review daily with your child.  Also, please take the online practice CRCT for added reinforcement.

Ellis Island

Hello,


Ellis Island was a huge success.  This students enjoyed the experience.  It was a wonderful way to introduce the students to immigration.

Health project on fitness and nutrition.  This project is due Feb 27th.  Information will be sent home this week.

Writing

The students will receive their grades for the imaginative pieces that were written.  We are now working on persuasive.

Please remember to turn in the money for the fifth grade field trip.  Also, the PTA is still taking up money for the end of year t-shirt and picnic.

Hello,

The students received a revised field trip form.  Please return the form along with the envelope for the money.  Also, the students received a form for permission to participate in a one day field trip. Please return this form as soon as possible. 

Chocolate packets are due Feb 12th, 2009.

We need parent volunteers for chocolate day, Feb 13th.  We also need volunteers for the Ellis Island simulation on Feb 17th.  If you are able to participate in any of these activities please contact me.

**Please donate unwanted clothing items to the nurse's office

Hello,

The school nurse would appreciate it if parents would donate unwanted clothing to the office.  These items will be used for students who are in need of a change of clothes during school hours.  If you are able to help please let me know.

The chocolate packet is due Feb 12th.  This packet is worth 4 grades.  Please encourage your child to work on this packet daily.

Information was sent home about several school related acitivies during conferences.  Please return this information as soon as possible.

The Atlanta Falcon's permission form was sent home this week with conference information.  Please return this form before Feb 6th.

**Health project-  The students will be placed into groups of five for an exciting project.  The basis of the project is to create an aerobic and anaerobic exercise course.  This course should promote cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance.  The students will use their health book as a guide as well as approval from me.  This project will relate to the lesson that we reviewed about maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system and a health respiratory system.  This project will be discussed on Monday, Feb 3rd.  The students will have two weeks to complete as a group.

The students will be participating in an assimilation of Ellis Island on Feb 17th.  If you are bilingual or if can volunteer please contact me as soon as possible. We need parent volunteers to help with this activity.

Any information about placement for middle school can be answered by the middle school in which your child is attending.

Final schedule for conference week

Hello,

Please review and send the conference forms to me as soon as possible.  These slips validate our conference times.  If you cannot come at a schedules time please contact as soon as possible.  At this conference we will discuss the CRCT practice tests, the student's report card, and information about test taking tips. 

Chocolate packet:

I know that many of you have seen the chocolate packets that were sent home Monday.  This packets are worth 4 grades: math, writing, grammar,and reading.  This packet includes activities that pertain to each of thesesubjects. The packet has activites that are completely surrounded aroun

d chocolate. The packet is to be fully completed and turned in by the 12th of February.  The packet is organized by a point system.  Therefore, the students can determine what type of grade they want to receive.  The points are located on the front of the packet.  In order to participate in the actual "Chocolate Day" festivity students must complete enough points to attain a "C."   

Chocolate day will include a fun day of chocolate and movies.  If the packet is not completed students will not be able to participate in this day.

Please encourage your child to complete a section of this weekly. This will give them enough time to review their work.

Conference schedules

Hello,

On Friday, conference schedules were sent out to parents.  Please respond if you are either able or unable to make it to the scheduled meeting.  At this meeting we will discuss the student's progress as it relates to their second semester grades.

Adjectives: predicate adjectives, adjectives that compare, and descriptive adjectives.

Friday- Spelling (12 words to improve test scores)

**Please review the information that is sent home thoroughly.  Preparations for the end of year celebration for fifth graders is approaching.  Information about the slide show pictures and for the yearbook have already gone home.  Today, the students received information about the picnic and about the fifth grade t-shirts.  Each 5th grade students will have a t-shirt with his or her name on it.  Lastly, please be on the look out for information regarding the fifth grade end of year trip.

Winter Celebration

Hello,

Our math test for chapter 11 was postponed due to the field trip and the leadership academy.  We will have our test on chapter 11 on Tuesday. 

The ABC book for social studies is due Jan 6th.  A rubric was sent home with the students.

The students also have a health project that is due next Friday, Dec 19th.  The students also received a overview of the project.  They have a choice of creating a time line about their life or a collage.  The collage should symbolizes how they feel about becoming an adult. 

The social studies test for chapter 6 will be on Thursday.  Farina's class will have their test on Wed.

Winter Celebration

The students are planning their winter celebration.  They have chosen to bring a book that is $5 or less.  The book should be wrapped.  Also, if able the students voted to bring in a canned good for the less fortunate.

A letter will be sent home Monday.
