Graduating is Bittersweet

Dear Parents,

Now you have your child back, the same one you entrusted to my care last fall.  I give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature than he/she was then.

Although they would have grown anyway, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personalities unfold day by day and be amazed at this miracle of development.

I give them back reluctantly, after spending so many months together in the same small classroom, we have grown close and will always be a part of each other.  We have lived, laughed, cried, played and learned from each other every day in many different ways.

Take care of my little friends, they are precious.  Keep in touch because I am interested in your child forever.....whatever happens, know that I am so proud to have had the opportunity to begin your child's school career.  It has been a fun and rewarding experience to watch them grow with confidence each and every day.

Check out the pictures of our graduation ceremony:

The Virtual Vine

                                           Multi2

Special Education at the Virtual Vine  This is a site I ran across which deals with any kind of special needs disability you can think of.  The sites are hopefully helpful if you have questions or want to answer questions for a friend.  Have you ever found that just because you have a child with special needs, everyone thinks you're an expert?   Read a few of these and you will be!

Mailbox  Early Language and Literacy Activities

To download materials go to http://www.walearning.com and click on the purple button that says "Free Parent Education Handouts" on the home page.

These materials include twenty home and community activities for adults and children birth to three that encourage early language and literacy development.  They are appropriate for children with disabilities as well as children who are developing typically.

Each of the twenty activities includes an activity description, and hints for making the activity fun and developmentally appropriate.  In addition to the activities, you can download an activity checklist that helps parents and caregivers notice their children's skills, and also cues adults to examine and grow their own interactions with children.

The materials are specifically designed to address the three key skills of 1) language development, 2) sounds and rhythms, and 3) general book and print awareness.

The files are in PDF format to allow easy and secure downloading.

·        A brief introduction to the materials

·        Activities and hints for adapting them to the child's specific needs

·        Activity checklists for self-evaluation by the adult

The materials are made available by Angela Notari-Syverson and colleagues, and may be copied and distributed as long as they are not sold.

Santa's Visit

Download Presentation Santa

Thank you all for coming to our Holiday Social.  The kids were really surprised and just a little leary of the big guy.  It’s so much fun to see their faces in awe.  Doesn’t Ms. Owens look like the real thing next to Santa?  I’ll have to keep this picture accessible for proof that she really is “my little elf”.  Really!  Enjoy the pictures and have a wonderful holiday season.

Amy was right when she said that we were the ones who are blessed to teach your children.  This year in particular, I have seen so much growth in each one of them.

 He’s speaking Spanish to Jesus.

Keep up the good work and “follow-through” at home.  Your constant support makes everyone’s job so much easier.  I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.  Again, thank you for your support in teaching your child.

Sincerely,

Jana Hill

(These were the only pictures of mine that came out,  Amy has lots more)
