Still life
We continue on our theme - "Drawing from Life"
We are training ourselves to put on the mind of the artist when we draw by looking for the basic shapes that constitue the subject matter of our artwork. When we realize that drawing is nothing more than aligning simple shapes, suddenly drawing objects becomes more manageable. Then after practice, we realize that subject matter does not dictate to the artist what he or she can or cannot draw. Instead, the artist changes their thinking into believing they can draw anything as long as they discover how to decipher the "shape coding" that resides within the object they want to draw.
Once those crucial shapes are pinpointed and locked into the proper placement, an artist then not only builds confidence, but he or she also begins to understand how the principles and elements of design empower the artist to mold and shape images onto the page.
Below is my example of drawing a toy car as the subject matter for a still life. This will give you an idea of how we continue to incorporate the skill sets that will set up the children for art challenges further down the road in High School and Middle School.
Here is the picture.
We continue to have fun in art. I am looking forward to our kindergarten art club which is going to kick off on October 7th! C-ya
