Happy Spring!

Dear Parents,

This time of year is always the fastest.  The children have grown so much and are able to do many more things than they could at the beginning of the year. 

A large envelope was sent home recently.  It has preregistration papers in it that need to be returned so that you don't have to come in during the summer to reregister your child.  The envelope will also be used at the end of the year for your child's report card.  If you put on three first class stamps, your child's report card will arrive in your mailbox the first week of June.  Otherwise, you'll have to make a special trip back to Chalker and pick it up.  These should be returned by tomorrow.  (just like homework!)

If you know of someone in Chalker's school district that has  a child that will be in kindergarten next year, remind them that Kindergarten Registration is Wednesday, April 1 from 8:30-11:00 a.m.

We are sending home permission slips for the Zoo fieldtrip.  Please send in the signed form with your student's payment as quickly as possible so we can complete our preparations.

Questions to discuss with your child:

Which do you like best,  __________  or ____________?  Why?

Does that word have a long vowel sound or a short vowel sound?

Is "three plus two" six?  Why or why not?

How tall is your plant at school?

Appreciated!

Dear Parents,

How wonderful it is to feel appreciated.  Thank you so much for everything.  Mrs. Morris and I started off the week with some wonderful chocolate, then some beautiful blooms (which goes right along with our study on plants).  We've had yummy muffins, declicious lunches and gotten some very handy school supplies. Thank you for your thoughtful gifts.

Here some questions to discuss with your child:

What happens to seeds?

If I have 5 beans and 2 are red, how many are white?

What are the names of the vowels?

What words are in the "at" family?  (hat, cat,...)

Dear Parents,

Winter is almost over.  (I was hoping for a snow day so the kids could experience a little fun wintry weather--oh, well.  Maybe next year.)

Some questions to ask your child:

• What is living?  What is nonliving?

• Does cake have a short "a" sound or a long "a" sound?

• What can you remember about George Washington?  Abraham Lincoln?

• We trade money for goods and services.  What are goods?  What are services?

• How do you count by fives?  By twos?

We are hoping that each family can donate one package of baby wipes to get us through the rest of the year.  Thanks.

Coming up:

Early Release:  Tues, March 3 the students are released at 12:20.

Soon breakfast will be available for Chalker students.  We will send more information later, but here are some facts:

Breakfast will be available in Chalker's cafeteria after spring break.  If your child is on the free lunch program, breakfast will be no charge.  If your child is on reduced lunch then he will be charged 30 cents.  I don't know the full cost for other children.  If you have questions you can call our lunchroom manager, Sharon Rhodes at 678-494-7622.
