Where did January go?

It was wonderful to visit with all of you.  Our class is a pleasant one and after having met all of you, I can tell why. 

Valentines will be here soon.  We will exchange valentines in the classroom on Friday, the 13th.  We will be sending home a list of student names.  If you would like your child to participate, please help them sign each valentine and write the names of a classmate on each valentine.  We will make small containers for our valentines at scool and help them pass the valentines out at school.

I really enjoy this time of year in Kindergarten because the children are ready to learn so much.

Here are some questions to discuss with your child (if you want, you can call this homework):

Most ants that you see are boy ants or girl ants?

What is a bubble map? 

When was yesterday?  When was long ago?

Have grown-ups always been big?  When were they little?

What things around your house could you use to make a graph?  (i.e. how many mittens, gloves and hats do you have?  How many forks, knives and spoons,...)

How many pennies is a quarter worth?

Please remember not to send juice or other drinks besides water to school.  They can make a sticky mess.

Coming up:

Wednesday Feb 4 is an early release day (12:30).

Monday Feb 16 is President's Day.  No school for students.

Dear Parents, It feels a little strange to be back. I imagine the children will be pretty tired and ready for the weekend.

Here are some questions to discuss with your child:

• What is weather?

• What can you do when it's sunny that you can't when it's rainy?

• What can you do when it's hot that you can't do when it's cold?

• How can we tell what the weather will be like?

• How do we measure weather?

Next week we will be learning about fire safety.  We will have a firefighter talk to us.  Your child will bring home a booklet.  Please discuss the things in the booklet and draw up your own fire escape plan.  Practice it.  Please return the booklet quickly.  We will need it by Wednesday.  Thank you.

Also, we are sending home a letter to set up appointments for Parent Teacher Conferences.  Please check to see if the time will work with your schedule.  Then return the bottom portion of the slip.

Class Party

Dear Parents,
This year is almost at an end.  Here are some questions to discuss with your Kindergartner:
What stays in the sky?  What comes down from the sky?
How is the sky different at night than in the day?
What is a sentence? 

Our class holiday party is Thursday, Dec 18.  We are reading the story Polar Express and in that story the children wear their pajamas while on a train ride to the North Pole.  Your child may  wear their pajamas at school on that day.  Please make sure they have shoes and jackets to wear when we are out of the classroom
Coming up:
Winter Break begins Monday, Dec 22.
School Begins again Tuesday, January 6.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be Jan. 26- 30.  We will be
sending home a notice for making appointments for these
 conferences by Jan. 12.  I look forward to meeting
 with you.
