Fall is such a fun time of the year!

This week is Red Ribbon Week.  We hope the children will make the decision now to choose drug free activities.

The Book Fair is here.  The children have had a chance to check out some of the books for sale.  They've made some choices.  If you can, come in some time this week and take a look yourself.  If you can't come in but would like your child to purchase a book, send in the money in an envelope labeled "book fair" and we'll make sure your child has the opportunity to go during the school day.

Chalker's Fall Festival is this next Saturday, the 25th.  Some of you have already volunteered to help or donate something.  Our room rep, Mrs. Bartlett, has a cute idea for our class pumpkin which will be auctioned off.  All of our students will have a "hand" in it.  Hope to see you there.

Please remember that Wednesday is an early release day.  School will be dismissed at 12:20.

How fast  time flies when you're having fun!  Some questions to ask your child:

When are you a Kindergartner? 

What are things Kindergartners do?

What is a penny?

What is a nickel?

What is a ten grid?

We began writing in our journals in the middle of September.  The children will be bringing home their first journal in a few days.  In kindergarten we use pictures to help give meaning to our writing.  At this stage in kindergarten some children will be using pictures with a few letters scattered here or there.  Others draw and then write about their picture by:

1. Saying their sentence;
2. then counting the words in their sentence and drawing blanks for every word they hear. 
3. They can then fill in the blanks with sounds they know--usually the beginning sound of the word. 

It is a joy to watch their progress!
