Day 28

A couple of things you won't want to forget!

• Monday is Labor Day.  No School!
• Tuesday Evening is our Open House from 7 to 7:45.  No children please.  ("Bedtime for babies," as my husband says.)  Please do your homework before you come by reading "Mrs. Fudge's Kindergarten Handbook" that was given to you at Sneak a Peek.  That way we can go over curriculum instead of day to day things.

Day 10!

Dear Parents,

Ten important days have passed.  Your child has learned a lot about our classroom routines.  Establishing rules and routines will help the rest of the year go more smoothly.  We will be able to spend more time focusing on academics. 

The students came up with the following rules:

What does Kindergarten look like? 

     Children

• being nice
• listening
• learning
• following directions

To stimulate thinking, we often ask essential questions.  Try some of these with your child:

• Is today the first day of school?
• Why do letters come in pairs?
• How many are in my family?

Your child's rest towel is coming home today so that it can be washed.  Please have it ready to come back to school on Monday.

Day 7

Dear Parents

We have a new student, Destini.  The children are very welcoming.  They enjoy playing together and are learning to resolve problems.  Part of our positive discipline plan is to develop class rules together.  They know that kindergartners should share, listen, take turns,...  We'll let you know the final results.

We have been learning about our names.  Thirteen of our sixteen students have a letter "a" in their name!  Sebastian's name is the longest and Ali's is the shortest.

Also,  letters come in pairs:  capitals and lowercase. 

We are finding examples of "environmental print" that we recognize, such as the logos for McDonalds, Publix, WalMart, M&Ms...  Help your child find logos from packages you use at home.  Send them in by Friday so we can discuss them. 

First Week

Hello, Parents

This first week is over.  We are adjusting quickly to one another and to our routines.  Kindergarten is such a fun place to be!

We are beginning to figure out what a kindergartner does.  There are so many things to remember:

·        small voices inside, tall voices outside

·        in the hallway, we walk on the second tile

·        how to unpack our backpacks...

From now on, these parent notes will be posted as needed on our school website in my BLOG.  If you don’t have internet access, let me know and I can make a copy to send home.

When school work comes home, ask your child to tell you about it.  We don’t use copied work as often as they do in the upper grades, so sometimes it is unclear what the objective of the work is.  Also, if I have “graded” it, you will see checkmarks, or smiley faces, or stickers or stamps. 

I check to see if the student has done the assignment correctly, carefully and has included his name.

·        3 checks means the student accomplished all three,

·        2 checks means the student only did two of the three goals,

·        1 check means the student only accomplished one, and

·        a Zero means no attempt was made

P.S.  If your child has complained about being cold in the cafeteria, have them bring a jacket to school—with their name printed on it somewhere:)

Day Three

Hello, Parents

It’s going to be a long week for the kindergartners.  They are tiring much more easily and we still have two days to go.  But so far things are going great!

Just a couple of things:

• please, no juice fore snack.

• One of our students told his mother,  “Mom, do you know why I don’t miss you at school?  Because I’m  so busy having fun at school that I don’t have time to think about missing you!”

• Can your child answer these questions?

• How many kids are in our class?
• Who is in our class?
• Is it the first day of school?
