Many THANKS to all the parents who attended our Open House on September 4th. We had a GREAT turnout and I appreciate you taking the time to come and listen to the information about our classroom.
Many THANKS to all the donations we have received for our class. We've received extra snacks, stickers, recess toys, a toy bucket and many other items. I appreciate your generosity.
Many THANKS to all the volunteers for Room Moms, Computer Lab assistants, Writer's Workshop, Copy Mom, Class Photographer and our Class Directory!! Teacher's love volunteers and appreciate all the help they can get!
Many THANKS for your supervision on your child's daily homework assignments!
Math:
We have studied place value extensively, more than/less than, learned how to regroup in addition and many other math strategies. We are currently working on counting coins and this is something that can be reinforced at home.
Language Arts:
We have daily Reading groups in our class and when your child is not reading with the teacher, they are working on a short story and reading comprehension activity. All students work at their own pace and are learning how to do this.
We are also working on the writing process and will soon begin Writer's Workshop.
We have a class full of very good spellers and our spelling tests have been phenomenal! Please continue to work on spelling each week to keep us at this high level of learning.
Social Studies:
We have learned about types of communities, community helpers and are now learning map skills at a local level. We will proceed to map skills at a global level next week. You will notice that most of our weekly poems pertain to our current social studies lessons and you should study these each night. Our students love reciting the poem to the class each Friday!
IMPORTANT DATES:
Wednesday, 9/19 - EARLY RELEASE DAY -Students are released at 12:30
Stevi B's Pizza Night - Barrett Parkway
Friday, 9/28 - SPIRIT DAY! Please remember that students should wear
"Chalker Wear" or mostly green and yellow. We would love
to win Spirit Day for 2nd Grade!
**BEWARE:
Many students are bringing drinks and bottled water and this is fine. However, we have had a problem with spilled drinks ruining precious work samples, many trips to the restrooms and confusion over which drink belongs to whom. Water/drinks are allowed several times during the day, but will not be kept on desks or near our mailboxes. I appreciate your support on this!
DONATIONS NEEDED:
Extra snacks, outdoor toys, Lysol wipes to keep germs away...
PROGRESS REPORTS:
Reports will be sent home on Friday, 9/21, with students who have concerns regarding below-level work and behavior concerns. Please remember that I am very willing to schedule a conference with anyone who has concerns about their child's progress in our class. Feel free to call and speak with me, leave me a message or email me.
MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT! Enjoy the beautiful early Fall weather and your super 2nd grader!
