Meet Mrs. Barker!

I love teaching Chalker's ESOL students!  Would you like to know a little bit about me?  

The Marietta area has been my home for many years!  In fact, I attended Bells Ferry Elementary, J.J. Daniel and Sprayberry High.   Wow!  Who would have thought those schools had been around so long!

I completed my undergraduate degree at Berry College, majoring in English and Spanish, and my master's degree in education at Georgia State University.  My most recent concentration was in reading, language and literacy.  I have endorsements in gifted education, reading and ESOL.

I love teaching!  I enjoyed previous careers as a stay-at-home mom and a writer and photographer for a major oil and gas company.   My traveling job took me to some very interesting places from oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico to tortoise relocation projects in north Florida.  Would you like to fly in a helicopter over the ocean and land in a bayou in a seaplane?  Exciting!

My husband and I have three children.  They are students at Kell, Palmer and Chalker.  We enjoy camping, biking and playing games and putting together puzzles.  Traveling is also a favorite for our famiy. 

Besides spending time with my family and teaching, I love reading, digital photography, walking with my iPod, planning trips, and growing flowers.
